Shanghai-Milan Design Education Forum 2019

 

On December 2, 2019, under the guidance of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, City of Milan: Municipal Division for Labour Policies, Trade, Productive Activities, Fashion and Design, Foreign Affairs Department, Mayor's office, Consulate General of the people's Republic of China in Milan, SPCCD, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Science and Technology Development Center, POLI.design and POLIMI Design System jointly held the "Shanghai-Milan Design Education Forum 2019" in Milan, Italy.

 

 

The forum aims to give full play to the advantages of design resources of Shanghai and Milan, promote communication and exchange between Chinese and Italian design colleges, and enhance the cooperation of design education and design industry between Shanghai and Milan. The Shanghai University Design Work Exhibition was held during the period of forum.

 

 

 

 

Shanghai University Design Work Exhibition

 

Before the formal start of the forum, Cristina Tajani, Deputy Mayor of Milan and Zhang Hong, Vice Consul General of the Consulate General of China in Milan, had visited the Shanghai University Design Work Exhibition accompanied by Luo Zhiwei, Secretary General of SPCCD.

Cristina Tajani, Deputy Mayor of Milan, said that she was very grateful to the SPCCD for its efforts to promote the design exchange between China and Italy, and was glad to see the design achievements of Shanghai universities. There is a great potential and prospect of cooperation between Shanghai and Milan and she hoped that two cities would take this opportunity to have more cooperation.

 

 

Vice Consul General Zhang Hong extended warm congratulations on the opening of the forum, and was pleased to see that the two sister cities had made rich achievements under the framework of Sino Italian strategic cooperation. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy and also the year of culture and tourism between China and Italy. She wished to further strengthen cooperation between Shanghai and Milan.

 

 

Luo Zhiwei, Secretary General of SPCCD, expressed his gratitude to the relevant government departments from two cities and the Consulate General of China in Milan for their supports for Sino Italian design cooperation and exchange and the work of SPCCD. He hoped that the two design capitals could produce more cooperation in the future, so that the two sister cities could blossom the flower of friendship and bear the fruit of cooperation.

 

 

Professor Luisa Collina, Dean of the Design Institute of POLIMI, introduced the existing cooperation projects with Shanghai, and believed that it was the best time to carry out the cooperation in the field of design education between two cities.

 

 

Giuliano Simonelli, President of Poli.design, said that he was very pleased to have reached so many important project cooperation with SPCCD in such a short time, and looked forward to  more cooperation in the future.

 

 

During the forum, Yu Wei, Deputy Dean of the Art Design and Media Institute, East China University of Science and Technology, and Matteo Ingaramo, General Manager of Poli.design, exchanged gifts as representatives of the two universities.

 

Subsequently, representatives of design institutes from Shanghai and Milan shared their own ideas, experiences and international cooperation projects. David Fassi, professor of School of Design, POLIMI, Yu Wei, deputy dean of School of Art Design and Media, East China University of Science and Technology, Andrea Tosi, director of International Academic Relationship, Istituto Europeo di Design, Sheng Rui, director of Leather Major, Shanghai Art & Design Academy, Antonello Fusetti, president of Milan Scuola Politecnica di Design, Lin Chenye, director of Product Design Major, Shanghai Polytechnic University and Carlo Forcolini, scientific director of Raffles Design Institute, attended the forum and delivered keynote speeches.

At the end of the forum, the participants visited the Shanghai University Design Achievement Exhibition and had exchanges, discussing the infinite possibility of future cooperation in a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere.

 

 

 

Both Shanghai and Milan have long history and cultural tradition. At the same time, they also have the city spirit of inclusiveness and change in their cultural blood. The opening of the Shanghai-Milan Design Education Forum will become an important link for the cooperation and exchange between China and Italy in the field of design, and promote the cooperation and development of design and fashion industry between two cities.
